BE1000 Series Emulsions are massively used and perform well under regular conditions for basic road surface preparations. But it was observed that there was scope for improvement – to deliver a custom solution; a solution that can perform to and beyond the required parameters delivering High Performing Solutions for a variety of purposes. The interaction between aggregate, fillers and emulsions is a chemical process. By controlling the said interaction, it is possible to deliver a unique high performance chemistry.
It was after significant R&D, that ART developed its Custom Chemistry Program and launched its Second Generation of Emulsions. There are over 15 parameters that influence the four relevant aspects of an Emulsion; Viscosity, Breaking Rate, Storage Stability and Particle Size Distribution, all of which are critical to contribute to a good mix.
The process involves receiving samples of aggregate the clients intends to use. Then a variety of emulsions are developed and tested with the sample aggregates for optimal performance by creating lab mixes. Once an optimal mix is determined, the job mix details are shared with the clients and work begins!
ART Solution | BE Grade | Conforming to | Application |
BE2100 | HPTMBE for Cold Mix | IRC:SP:100-2014 | Designed Cold Mix for Wearing Course and Patching |
BE2200 | HPTMBE for Bituminous Courses | IRC:SP:100-2014 | Designed Cold Mixes for Stabilization of RAP |
BE2300 | HPTMBE for BSM | IRC:SP:100-2014 | Designed Cold Mixes for Base Stabilization using Bitumen Emulsions |
BE2400 | HPTMBE for Half-warm mixes | IRC:SP:100-2014 | Designed Cold Mixes for Half-warm applications |
BE2100 is High Performance Tailor-made Bitumen Emulsions (HPTMBE) for Cold Mix. This Emulsions conforms to IRC:SP:100.
BE2100 is typically used for OGPC, Seal Coat, Slurry Seal, MSS, BM, SDBC, Patching or Bituminous Cold Mix (including Gravel Emulsions) purposes.
For details on Traffic and Climate suitability – refer to Annexure 1 of IRC-SP-100
BE2200 is High Performance Tailor-made Bitumen Emulsions (HPTMBE) for Bituminous Courses. This Emulsions conforms to IRC:SP:100, IRC:120 and BARM-USDOT.
BE2200 is typically used for Cold Recycling of Bituminous Surfaces purposes.
Cold Recycling is reuse of existing bituminous pavement to a depth of 50-125mm using bituminous emulsions (can add rejuvenators), normally used when there is requirement of correcting highly cracked bituminous surface by removal and replacement by thick bituminous overlay. Typically a seal of Microsurfacing/Chip Seal or thin bituminous overlay is required over Cold Recycling.
BE2300 is High Performance Tailor-made Bitumen Emulsions (HPTMBE) for Bitumen Stabilized Materials (Full Depth Reclamation). This Emulsions conforms to IRC:SP:100, IRC-120 and TG-2.
BE2300 is typically used for Bitumen Stabilized Materials or Full Depth Reclamation purposes .FDR is a rehabilitation technique in which full thickness of bituminous pavement and a pre-determined portion of base, sub-base and/or sub-grade is pulverized and stabilized to give a homogenous strong road base. Typically a seal of Microsurfacing/Chip Seal or bituminous overlay is required over FDR.
BE2400 is High Performance Tailor-made Bitumen Emulsions (HPTMBE) for Half Warm Mixes. This Emulsions conforms to IRC:SP:100.
BE2400 is typically used for DBM, SDBC or BC using Half Warm Mixes purposes.
Half Warm Mixes (HWM) involve mixing of Bitumen Emulsions with warm aggregate (100±10֯c), laid and compacted at temperatures between 80-90֯c. HWM is comparable to production of Hot Mix in terms of strength, durability and mixture requirements and therefore can be used for all climatic and traffic conditions.
