MB 3100 Performance Grade PMB

Performance Grade PMB Binders are a special grade of Bituminous Bnders based on the SuperPave Binder Test and specifications. Its measured lab testing relates to Field Performance. These are rigorously tested with various high-end equipment available with ART in-house (such as Rolling Thin Film Oven (RTFO), Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR), etc.) to simulate the performance of a binder at three critical stages:

• Change in Bitumen properties while transporting, storage and handling prior to mixing with aggregates,
• Change in Bitumen properties after Hot Mix operations and construction (short term ageing).
• Change in Bitumen properties after long period of time in service.
  
  

The tests are designed to control the pavement with 3 specific types of pavement distresses, rutting, fatigue cracking and thermal cracking. This gives a practical result to the performance of a binder and help overcome the difficulty in relating empirical tests to performance of pavements.

The results of the tests are given in a clear and easy to understand format. For example: PG76-22 implies that the particular binder will perform in a region with an annual 7 day max. average temperature of 76°C and single day annual min. temperature of-22°C. Beyond these parameters and over long exposures, the binder will be unable to perform optimally.

This simple yet highly effective way of identifying the optimal binder enables development of highly customizable solutions that are best suited for a particular site.
